Plumber in Allouez, WI

Allouez at a glance

Allouez is a village of 14,156 people (2020 census) between Green Bay to the north and De Pere to the south. The Fox River forms its western border and the East River its eastern. It covers about 5.15 square miles, 0.54 of them water.

What that means for your plumbing

Allouez is fully built out: the 2020 census counted 5,575 housing units and only 3% vacant. Many homes are mid-century houses with original sewer laterals. Clay and cast iron laterals of that age are prone to roots. If drains back up every year, see sewer lateral repair.

Between two rivers

Neighborhoods close to the Fox and East rivers sit low, and heavy rain can raise groundwater around basements. A sump pump with a battery backup is cheap insurance; see sump pumps.

Shanttown, Menomineeville and Allouez

The area was first called Shanttown by soldiers in the early 1800s. In 1824 Judge James Doty chose it as a place for a courthouse and gave it the grander name of Menomineeville, but he didn't register the plat until 1829. In the 1800s the Cadle Mission, an Episcopal mission to Native Americans, stood in the village, and in 1874 Allouez separated from the town of Bellevue. Its name honors the Jesuit missionary Father Claude-Jean Allouez. A median age of 41 and plenty of long-time owners mean many homes are due for a second round of plumbing updates, from water heaters to shut-off valves.
