Plumber in Ashwaubenon, WI

Ashwaubenon at a glance

Ashwaubenon is a village of 16,991 people (2020 census) on Green Bay's west side, with a Green Bay mailing address. It covers 12.75 square miles, and part of the Oneida Nation of Wisconsin lies within it.

What that means for your plumbing

The 2020 census counted 8,104 housing units and found that 34.2% of households were people living alone. That means plenty of apartments, condos and smaller homes, where one leak can affect the unit below. Landlords and tenants should both know where each unit's shut-off is; see find your main shut-off.

Game days and full houses

Busy weekends with a house full of guests are hard on drains and water heaters. If showers run cold or a toilet clogs every time you have company, it may be time to upgrade. See water heaters.

Chief Ashwaubamy's daughters

In the 1850s and 1860s the U.S. military bought most of what is now Green Bay's west side, except the land that became Ashwaubenon. That belonged to two daughters of Chief Ashwaubamy, who began selling it to local farmers and landowners in the late 1800s; one buyer was Jacques Vieau. One theory says the name comes from the Ojibwe for "place where they watch, keep a lookout"; another traces it to the chief himself. In Menominee the place is Es-Wāpanoh, "thither see the dawning". Former farmland means many homes here sit on flat lots with sump pits that work hard in spring.
