Plumber in Suamico, WI

Suamico at a glance

Suamico is a village of 12,820 people (2020 census) in Brown County north of Green Bay, including the neighborhood community of Flintville. The Suamico River flows east through the village into the bay of Green Bay.

What that means for your plumbing

Suamico mixes newer subdivisions with large rural lots, and homes outside the developed areas may have private wells and septic systems. Well owners should test their water and keep treatment equipment serviced; see water softeners and filters.

Near the bay

Homes near the bay shore and the river can see high groundwater after rain and snowmelt. Sump pumps and discharge lines that run long distances across the yard can freeze in winter; ask about freeze-resistant outlets.

Beavers, sawmills and the first county road

The name comes from the Menominee and has several disputed meanings, from "place of the yellow beaver" to "great sand bar people". The original settlement was a small fishing community on the bay. In 1849 and 1850 the Suamico and Fort Howard Road became the first declared county road in Brown County, following a former trail, and in the 1850s and 1860s large sawmills lined the Suamico River. The post office opened in 1857. Today, longer driveways and rural lots mean long buried water lines, so a leak may show up only as a wet patch or a pump that runs more than usual.
