Plumber in De Pere, WI

De Pere at a glance

De Pere is a city of 25,410 people (2020 census) on the Fox River just south of Green Bay. Its present plat dates from 1836, when the De Pere Hydraulic Company laid out the town, and it was the Brown County seat from 1837 until 1854.

What that means for your plumbing

With homes going back to the 1800s near the river and newer subdivisions on the edges, De Pere has every kind of plumbing. Older houses may have cast iron drains and galvanized supply lines that rust inside. If you see brown water or low pressure, see bathroom and kitchen plumbing and ask about replacing old lines.

East side and west side

The city once had two halves, De Pere on the east bank and West De Pere on the west. Homes close to the river sit lower, and lower basements are more likely to have sump pits that work hard in spring. Test yours before the thaw; see spring sump pump check.

The rapids of the fathers

When Jean Nicolet arrived in 1634, a settlement of several thousand people gathered here for the fishing at the first rapids of the Fox River. In 1671 the Jesuit Father Claude-Jean Allouez founded the St. Francis Xavier Mission at the last rapids before the river reaches the bay, and the place became known as Rapides Des Pères, the rapids of the fathers. The village was incorporated in 1857. Water has shaped De Pere from the start, and it still does: river-side neighborhoods should keep basement floor drains and backwater valves in good order. See floor drain backups.
